Girl Scouting builds girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place
|
Membership
Girl Scouting is open to all girls ages 5 to 17 as
well as adults who believe in the Girl Scout Promise
and Girl Scout Law. The Girl Scout year begins
October 1st, but you can join anytime! All members,
girl and adult, must be registered to participate.
Lifetime membership is available for adults.
Members pay annual membership dues of $10.00 to
the national organization, Girl Scouts of the USA.
Individual councils do not retain this fee. No girl is
denied membership due to financial hardship.
Through the help of adult volunteers, girls will learn leadership qualities and make
memories that will last throughout their lives. The Girl Scout program focuses on
building girls of courage, confidence and character through activities that allow each
girl to focus on personal interests. From traveling and cultural exchange, local
community events and service projects, sports skill-building activities, career
mentoring partnerships and environmental and financial education, the Girl Scout
program enables girls to engage in areas important to her.
Girl Membership Options
A girl can participate in Girl Scouting in a variety of pathways. She can become
involved in a troop setting with other girls in age appropriate leadership activities
and learning experiences together. Registering independently as a Juliette, girls can
participate in events and programs of her choice and at her own pace; with the help
of an advisor. Girls can join as a member to participate in short term leadership
programs such as summer or winter camps or travel opportunities.
Troops
Troops are lead by adult volunteers who have chosen to share their time and talents
to enrich the lives of girls through the Girl Scout program. Troops very in size. They
should be large enough to provide meaningful experiences including
self-governance, but small enough to allow for individual growth and development.
Troops on average meet bi-weekly. Troops should meet often enough to meet the
needs and interests of the girls while maintaining continuity of the program
experience. Meetings and other activities are scheduled and planned by the council
approved leaders in partnership with registered parents and adults working with
them. Mentors from the community are a valuable resource to the Girl Scouting
mission. Please consider how you can make a difference and contact our Council
office for additional information..
Juliette Independent Girl Scout Pathway
Girls register as a Juliette Girl Scout as they wait to be placed in a troop or because
they want the flexibility of participating at their schedule and/or own pace while they
concentrate on Girl Scout leadership topics that interest them most. With the support
of the Council's staff and Independent area volunteers receive program dates and
approved badge work.

Adult Membership
Girl Scouting would not be possible without the help of the adult volunteers. Adult
membership is extended to women and men 18 years and older. Not all volunteers
are troop leaders and not all troop leaders are parents. Approved, registered adults
can volunteer in many different ways. Adults can work directly with girls by being a
troop leader or assistant, a Service Unit Team Member or a mentor. Teaching a
workshop encourages girls to learn skills and develop confidence. Volunteers assist
local service areas with their numerous talents such as website designs, providing
administrative assistance, recruiting new members and participating or chairing local
events.
If you have an appropriate skill or passion, you can make a difference in the life of a
girl.
Research shows that the influence one caring adult has on a child will last them a
lifetime. Be a hero. Volunteer.
